Dormice

During the 20th century, the common, or hazel, dormouse disapppeared from many parts of the country where it used to live. Disappearing woodlands and hedgerows, and changes in woodland management, have made life difficult or impossible for this tiny mammal.

Bottom Wood is one of the few woods in Buckinghamshire where this dormouse is known to live and breed. We provide nest boxes to help it, and take part in the National Dormouse Monitoring Scheme.
